Hi! How's your day today? As for me, today is an amazing day! Why? Hehe let me keep it secret. Guys, please smile and keep positive eventhough it is a tough day!
So, today's topic for our LAST CLASS for Study Skills is "Time Management and Organizational Skills" and the class was conducted by Miss Nursyahida.

TIME MANAGEMENT

What is the meaning of time?

I personally think that time management is very important. Why? Here are some of the reasons;-
  1. It allows you to accomplish whatever you want in your life in a shorter period of time
  2. Leads to more free time
  3. Help to focus
  4. Happy!
  5. Lower your stress (This is very important  because we as a student, definitely will have a hectic day, life and stuff. It is a must for us to have a good mood or in a good condition all the time so that we can keep everything on track)

ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS

I'm sure enough that you guys want to know how to manage your time effectively, isn't it? So, here are the list how you should manage your time;-
  • Weekly schedule
  • Daily planner
  • Semester Calendar
  • Academic vs Personal life
  • Avoid procrastination

Okay wait, what is the procrastinate? It is basically an act of putting off doing something. It is the thief of time. The reason why we should avoid procrastination is because to avoid failure, being rebellious and being lazy. These are some of the remedy of avoiding procrastination.

Peeps, do believe me that there are a lot of advantages of being organized. For example, it can build your confidence, reduce your burden, not stressed out and etc. So please be organized or else your life can be miserable!

This is my weekly schedule;-

Before the class ended, Miss Nursyahida gave us a task for us to complete it and yeah it's done!

So guys, that's the end of my UED's class! I would like to thanks Miss Shamsinar for her continous guidance! Much love ya miss 💌 I feel sooooooo sad to leave the class especially my group mates! TAKING LECTURE NOTES

Last Wednesday on 11th July 2017,  Madam Normala was in charged of the UED class. The topic was "Taking Lecture Notes (Topic 6)". Actually I was looking forward to be in her class because some of my friends from other classes said that she was dabomb! And yeah, she was amazing. I'm sure that "AKU BIMBANG" is her trademark ahahahahha!

TAKING LECTURE NOTES

Have you ever thought why do we take lecture notes? Madam Normala told us some of the reasons. Let me tell you why. I bet 4 is enough isn't it?

  • To be a active listener
  • Accurate record of information
  • To interpret, condense and organize information
  • For repetition of material

How to take lecture notes? I mean the effective way, so that it will be easier for us to read. There are two ways;-

A) PREPARE BEFORE TAKING NOTES

  • Read before class
                 - Build up background
                 - Have an idea what the lecture is about
                 - Identify the main idea

  • Get ready to take notes as you walk into the classroom
  • Sit in front

B) BECOME ACTIVE LISTENER

  • Read before lecture
  • Sit in the lecturer's line of vision
  • Decide what to listen
  • Control emotional responses

Have you ever heard about cornell systems of taking notes? This is the best way for you guys to make it organized.

So far all of the UED classes are going very well. I hope that it will be the same for the last 2 classes or else 'Aku bimbang' before the interim session end hehe!

LIBRARY & CAMPUS RESOURCES

It's been a while since I updated my last entry. So today I want to share about my 4th UED102 class, which was conducted yesterday by Miss Nur. "Library & Campus Resources (Topic 3)" was the title of yesterday's discussion. At first, I didn't feel excited to come to the class because you know, it was UED's first class after the Hari Raya holidays. But surprisingly the class was fun and I enjoyed it.

LIBRARY

Perpustakaan Tun Abdul Rahman (PTAR) is the name of Uitm Raub's library. I swear, it is really really big! It consist of 2 floors. The 1st floor is more to Public Admin students and Business Students, while the 2nd floor is especially for CS111 students.

Miss Nur gave us a lot of information on how to borrow books and the rules there. The students can borrow maximum 20 books and the loan periods are 14 days while the loan periods for the lectures are 29 days. You will be fined 20 cent if you send it back over the due date. Here is the process;-

WEBopac ➞ Counter ➜ Loan process ➜ Due date

PTAR have many facilities such as;-

  • Lockers
  • WiFi
  • Air conditioner
  • Reading room
  • Newspaper
  • Magazines

At PTAR also there are some rules that we have to obey. For example we need to wear our matrix card, wear smart casual and cannot wear 'selipar jamban' woi! HEHE. Otherwise you will be fined.

CAMPUS RESOURCES

There are many online sources services at PTAR which are E-book, Blis, WEBopac, online journal and stuff.  After the class break, Miss Nur gave us lists of websites if we want to know more about UITM. You guys also can check it out down below!
  1. http://www.uitm.edu.my/index.php/en/
  2. http://library.uitm.edu.my/v4/index.php/en/

She also gave us an information about APA Styles.

Before the class ended, she took us out to PTAR and we did some activities there. Firstly, she asked us to sit with our current group. After that, she gave us 2 pieces of paper for us to answer all of the question. It was interesting because the environment was so cool!

                                                                                ❤️!

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY & PERFORMANCE

Today I'm having my third class of UED102 which was conducted by Madam Nurul Afzan. So, today's topic was 'Academic Integrity and Performance (Topic 7)'. In my point of view, this topic is really important to us as a student. It is because it tell you how to avoid plagiarism and how to calculate your grade point average.

AVOIDING PLAGIARISM

Nowadays, we often hear about the issue of plagiarism. It's so prevalent among the student and I'm sure this action is still being done until today whether intentionally or not. Oh wait, do you know what is plagiarism?

Plagiarism is an act of using the language of thought of another person without authorization and work as one's own and not crediting the original one. I think this is totally wrong! Try to imagine if your work is plagiarized by others. Can you imagine that? You yourself  work hard to get the work done, but suddenly other people plagiarized it without hesitation. Is it fair? In other words, plagiarism are;-

  • turning someone's else work as your own
  • copying words or ideas from someone else without giving credit
  • Giving incorrect information about the source of quotation
HOW TO PREVENT?

                                                Image result for plagiarism
                                                     SAY NO TO PLAGIARISM!

So how to prevent it? First thing first you must plan your paper. Only then, you will know what to do, what to search and so on. So everything will be on track. Next step, write your paper. Make sure to make it clear.

Proceed to the next subtopic which is Academic Performance. It is how to calculate your grade point average (GPA).

The final examination results and assessments at the end of every semester are assigned a grade point average and cumulative grade point average (CGPA) which represent a student's academic achievement. This is very important guys, for us to know how to calculate. Only then, you will know how to manage your studies well. If you can keep on getting 3.0 and above, at the end of every semester you will get a special award from university. So what are you waiting for? Let's grab it!

So, that's the end of today class. I personally think that today was so chill and relax. Plus, Madam, spent around 10-15 minutes to share her university life. It was really interesting and I really can't wait to go through this university life. I hope that i will get good grades and make my parents proud.

MEMORY, LEARNING & CONCENTRATION

I felt so ecstatic attended to Miss Shamsinar Rahman's class on 16/6/2017 since it has been postponed since last week! All the while, students of RB2D only managed to liaise with her through Whats App Messenger.  I was really anxious to meet her in person. After the first meeting, I noticed that she is an easy-going person and beautiful. Trust me, she has flawless skin!

The main topic of that day was about "Memory, Learning & Improving Concentration "- (Topic 4)

WHAT IS MEMORY LEARNING?

Learning and memory are closely related concepts. Learning is the acquisition of skill while memory is the expression of what you've acquired.  For your information, there are two type of student which are passive and participatory.

Passive students literally learn in four ways.
  1. Lecture
  2. Reading
  3. Audio/Visual
  4. Demonstration
For participatory there are 3 ways which are discussion group which affect 50%, practices by doing for 75% and the last one is teaching others which affect 90%! Okay, let me show you guys what is the difference between brain and memory. I guess some of you guys already know but yeah here it is;-

BRAIN
MEMORY

A physical place
Memory allows us to remember facts

Consists of encoding, storing and retrieval

Makes the information available for recall when we see or experience something

Leaves a trace

LEARNING IS BEHAVIOR.

Learning is behavior which acquiring info, then memory is about storing it and learning is a process. COMPLETE! There are two types of memory. First, short term memory (STM) and the second one is Long term memory (LTM).

Image result for long term memory and short term memory

Guys, have you ever heard about massed practice and space practice? Well basically massed practice is defined as practice that occurs without rest between trials which is not good at all. Trust me you will not fully understand. This kind of practice make your memory get less information which is STM.

So, as a perfect student we must exercise the space practice. It is a learning strategy where practice is broken up into a number of short sessions and over a longer period of time. It will give us LTM. Or you can try another way such as elaboration. You can make it on your own creativity so that it will be more interesting. Examples;-

  1. Associations
  2. Acrostics or Acronyms
  3. Image (Mind mapping)

In order to get a good result, we must set a goal, make a mind map, manage time properly and deal with any internal distraction.  We must remember, poor concentration can come from many aspects such as lack of interest, lack of motivation, personal problem and so on. So we must try our best to avoid it!

I want to share with you guys a fun experience in Miss Shamsinar's class. We  played a few speed quizzes in her class but one that I really loved, was when we have to memorize 12 words in 20 seconds and we need to write it back. It was really chaotic since everyone wanted to get all right. Unfortunately, I only managed to get 8 out of 12. What a shame! But still okay rather than 0, isn't it?There are some words that I got right. Until today, I still can't recall what is the other 4. HAHA!

I thought it was really fun because we learnt in a fun way and comfortable environment!

10 minutes before the class ended, Miss Shamsinar asked all of us to sit together according to our assignment's group. She gave a briefing on how to do our assignment and yeah! She explained it really well. I love her so much!

GETTING READY TO LEARN

On 9th June 2017, I've attended my first class at Dewan Titiwangsa Uitm Raub, Pahang. To be honest, I was really excited to experience the class conducted by Dr Fauzi Azmi. The topic discussed was about 'Getting Ready to Learn(topic 1)'. What I've got on that day is the differences in school and univerity, the characteristics of successful students and how to use learning styles to enhance performance.

Here are some differences in school and university;-

  • You spend less time in class
  • More time for reading
  • Fewer test
  • You spend more time studying outside the class

Furthermore, in university you will be having a lot of group assignments. I personally think that each one of us have to choose the right person to work with. It will be a problem if one of them is actually a sleeping partner. I mean like, you have to do it all alone but at the end of the day, he or she will still get the name and mark. It's totally unfair though! Next, the lectures basically won't tell what's on the test. You have to struggle hardly in order to get flying colors, unless you're not a study person.

From Dr Fauzi Azmi's class also, I got to know the characteristics of successful students. Firstly, make a schedule or use a planner. From this, you can really fill up your ample time wisely. As a student, I'm pretty sure we are too busy with a lot of works. So by doing this, we can manage our time very well. Secondly, learn how to take good notes. So that it will be more interesting to read and memorize it. Thirdly, to attend every class and get to class early. Don't ever dare to skip class and please get enough sleep or else you'll be sleepy in class. Lastly make a master list of projects, assignments and exams. It will make us well prepared and everything will go smoothly.

Meanwhile, we also need to use our own learning styles to enhance performance and be on the race!

UED 102

        Ued102

My name is Nur Syazlia bt Mohd Rosdi and I'm currently one of the student at Uitm Raub, Pahang. Now I am having my interim season prior the real semester in September. I have to do this e-portfolio under UED 102 subject as an individual work that provide 60% marks and that's the reason why this blog is created!

As I am writing this entry, I was thinking what's is the purpose of this assignment and I bet all of you also excited to know, isn't' it?

Now I've got the answer. The purpose of this assignment is to provide us with a platform to document our experience as university students. Throughout this, I hope that I can finish all my task and be able to score, as well as to pass this subject.

Wish me luck!
